Guiding Principles

Students attend the post secondary institution on an inclusive basis. There will be no separate classes, classrooms or curricula.

Classroom learning will only be one of the experiences of post-secondary education. Students will be encouraged to participate in other employment, recreational, social, and athletic activities.

Students will participate in courses of their choice, which are based on their personal interests and needs. The students will direct the course of his or her studies.

Students will prepare and become active, valued, sociable members of society and, as such, will be fully involved, active, valued members of the educational community and larger society.

Students will not serve as research subjects or practicum opportunities.

Applicants will be interviewed to determine what they want to do, their level of motivation and goals. Admission is not dependent on labels, academic prerequisites or IQ.

The educational experience will strive to be commensurate with the experience of the typical post-secondary student.

Families will be encouraged to give input and support.

The goal of inclusive post-secondary education is not to ‘normalize’ students with developmental disabilities, but rather to make their full inclusion in post-secondary education the norm.

At least one student on each campus will have significant and/or complex support needs.
